The art of intarsia uses natural color woods to create a mosaic like picture by cutting out the pieces of wood using a scroll saw. The pieces are then shaped, sanded, finished with a clear varnish, and glued to a backerboard.
Wise Owl – Beginner Intarsia Pattern
This adorable Wise Owl is a fun and approachable intarsia project designed with beginners in mind. With just 23 pieces, the pattern offers enough detail to practice shaping and fitting while keeping the project manageable for someone new to intarsia. The finished design uses 7 different wood species, giving you an opportunity to experiment with natural wood colors, grain patterns, and contrast to bring your owl to life.
