The art of intarsia uses natural color woods to create a mosaic like picture by cutting out the pieces of wood using a scroll saw. The pieces are then shaped, sanded, finished with a clear varnish, and glued to a backerboard.

This design was inspired by the lyrics of “America the Beautiful” (spacious skies, amber waves of grain, purple mountain majesties, fruited plain, shining sea) while also showing the bald eagle flying with the flag “waving” behind it representing the freedom, strength, courage, and independence in America.

With purchase of this digital file you will receive a zip file that includes the following:

- A cover photo of my original finished piece to reference.

- A PDF file of the full scale pattern that measures 35.5” x 23.5”. Prints great on 36” x 24” paper. I print my copies at our local Staples office store.

- A small briefing including the different woods I used.

This is an advanced pattern that consists of 647 pieces for those intarsians that like a challenge. You could also use this pattern for a segmentation piece (painting the pieces rather than using natural wood colors).

This is a line pattern with thin red lines for better visibility and more accurate cuts.  Each piece is numbered for your reference. I did not include grain direction or color suggestions in the pattern or it would be too crowded. You can use the reference photo in the file or the pictures on this listing, if you’d like to reference colors and shaping.

I used wood thicknesses varying from 1/8” to 1” thick and used some risers for the eagle.
